COUNSELLING

Therapeutic Approach
What can you expect during our time working together
My aim is to build a strong therapeutic relationship with you where you feel safe and can share your thoughts and feelings in a confidential space without any fear of judgement, we will work together at your pace on any issues you wish to bring.
Within my counselling practice I use an integrative approach encompassing person centred theory, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and transactional analysis (TA).
I recognise that each person is an individual and as an integrative counsellor I understand that there is not only one therapeutic approach which can help. I will focus on listening to you, understanding what you are experiencing and from my knowledge and understanding of theory supporting you to work towards your goals.
Person Centred Therapy
This is the foundation of how I work - placing the you at the heart.
Person Centred Therapy is a humanistic approach to psychotherapy developed by Cark Rogers and focuses on peoples innate capacity for self healing and personal growth.
In our work I focus on nurturing a supportive, non-judgemental space where you will feel understood and accepted in order for you to feel safe to explore your thoughts and feelings to foster personal growth, self-awareness and emotional healing.
Transactional Analysis
Transactional Analysis (TA) is a type of psychotherapy which explores personality and helps us to understand ourselves better - why we feel, think and behave in certain ways. It can help us understand how we interact with the world and in our relationships.
This theory can help us to explore our past and reflect on how our experiences have affected us throughout our lives.
Though this exploration, we can understand ourselves better and in turn make more informed decisions and different choices.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is based on the concept that your thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and actions are interconnected, and that negative thoughts and feelings can trap you in a negative cycle.
CBT aims to help you deal with overwhelming problems in a more positive way by breaking them down into smaller parts.
In our work together we may bring in some CBT techniques to help challenge any unhelpful thoughts and beliefs and explore behavioural changes which you may wish to make.
